Our home has hardwoods throughout=I needed to purchase quite a few area rugs. Enter Target. I have 3 children and 2 dogs, which means there is a lot going on with the floors here (aka dirt, hair and crumbs). Because of that, I need rugs that are affordable, durable and can be returned easily if the colors or styles do not work. The last thing I want to do is pay to send back a rug. As I look around the house, almost all of the area rugs that I have recently purchased are from Target.
Let me take you on a little tour…
These are by far the lightest color rugs that I have ever owned, but they are surprisingly forgiving with all the traffic that comes across them from 5 people (3 are small, dirty children!) and 2 dogs. P.S. I’m dreaming of painting those cabinets white, beefing up the island with some molding and changing out the backsplash/countertops, but that’s another story…I LOVE a white kitchen!!!
Love this rug- comfortable and again, forgiving which is a winner! There are those free chairs again!
I’m always drawn to natural fiber rugs- this one is mostly sea grass. I don’t mind the texture and it’s very easy to keep clean. It reminds me of the beach too which is a good thing!
This rug is BEYOND comfortable!!! I hesitated buying a “shag” rug because I was afraid it would be hard to vacuum, but this rug is amazing. The pictures really do not do it justice.
The pink room in a sea of blue and gray! I went back and forth on this rug. I saw it on another site, but hesitated, again because of the thought of having to pay to send it back if I didn’t like it in real life. Well, I love it. It is just the right mix of colors, yet has a faded or “vintage” look. It is relatively thin, so I will be putting a rug pad underneath. **Update** This rug is currently unavailable at Target, but here it is at Wayfair.
This is an indoor/outdoor rug. It’s not super comfy, but I have a rug pad underneath to beef it up a bit. B likes it because the stripes can also double as roads for his cars and trucks- bonus! I like it because it is easy to keep clean- bonus!
I also have my eye on this– I’m thinking of ordering the small size for the laundry room.
I have also found that if I find a rug on a website like Joss and Main or Wayfair, chances are Target carries it as well. The companies don’t usually call the rug by the same name, but if you do some searching online at Target, you can usually find it. The benefit from ordering from Target is again, you can return it to a store if you end up not liking the rug when you actually get it in your home rather than have to pay to mail it back.
Your rug will most likely need something to keep it in place or make it a little more comfortable. I love this felt rug pad from Amazon. It is very thick and easy to trim down to size if needed.
If you have wall to wall carpet instead of hardwoods, why not put an area rug on top to brighten up the space and completely change the look of a room? Our playroom has wall to wall carpet and I’m on the lookout for a runner to put in front of the bookcases. It’s little changes like switching out an area rug that can easily update your room or be the springboard for a whole new color scheme! It’s an easy and relatively expensive way to get quick results!
