Do you ever get an idea in your head and then you keep thinking about it until you do something about it? Well that was the case with wallpaper for me. I do want to try to master real wallpaper at some point, but for the moment, I thought I would try some removable, temporary wallpaper in a small dose. So I looked around for a small, easy, flat wall with no corners and I landed on a wall in our very small laundry room. It is really more of a pass through.
When we were house shopping, we looked at a house that I absolutely LOVED and the laundry/mudroom was one whole side of the house!!! Not kidding. It was huge. I still dream about what could have been done with that space- built in cubbies and dog crates, cabinets and storage galore… Sigh. Ok, now back to what I currently have. It really is not a great space, but short of moving walls, pipes, electricity, this is what I’m dealt with, so I’m going to make this space as wonderful as I can.
When we moved in, this room was sad. So sad and tired.

This was the first space that I painted because it really was so sad to walk into the house this way every time. The laundry room is right off the garage, so this is our main entrance into the house. I wanted something pleasing to the eye when we come home- something happy and cheerful, so I painted it Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams- a nice, light, happy color (and it sounds like the beach which is also a happy thing)!
We needed a new washer and dryer stat. I went and ordered a nice big front loading washing machine and matching dryer. My dear father met the super nice delivery man at the house while I was at work and then promptly called me with the sad news that the washer was not going to fit. As in there wouldn’t be enough clearance to open the washer door. That is how narrow this space is. Ugh. We thought about stacking them, but again, that didn’t solve the problem of not having enough space to open the doors.
So I went back to Best Buy and found a slimmer top loading machine. Sad face. I know some people hate their front loaders but I loved the one we had in house #2.
That means no counter top in the laundry room either. Insert another sad face.
Anyway, new washer and dryer- check.
Removed the laundry sink- check (I’m sure some of you are thinking I’m nuts for doing this, but space is at a premium and it had to go!)
New cabinets and shelving (stock cabinet from Lowes). Baskets from Target– check
Peel and stick tiles over the old yucky linoleum (this was seriously the easiest, fastest, biggest change that I have ever done- highly recommend)- check
New paint (Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams)- check
New light fixture– check
Removable wallpaper…are you ready….check (literally!!!)
Is it bold? Yes. Do I love it? Yes!!!!!! This is the entrance to the house we use 99% of the time so this is what we see when we walk into the house. LOVE. And it cost a little over $50. Well worth it in my book. Guess where I got it??? TARGET!!!! And the best part is, when I tire of it, it will literally just peel off- no damage, no tools necessary!
It’s called Devine Color Buffalo Plaid Peel and Stick Wallpaper in “black and lightning”. They have a taupe color and a gray color too!
I just ordered these new baskets and then I’ll move the navy and white ones into the playroom. I have some other little touches to do as well now that the colors have changed a bit in this room.
Do you see I painted the door trim? Most of the trim in the house is painted white except for this room and the kitchen. There was old paint all over the door trim and I tried a few things to get it off, but nothing worked.
Instead of sanding it off, I chose to paint it black. And I love it. Especially on the door that leads to the garage because it will hide all the fingerprints coming in and out 🙂 Notice I kept the baseboards white- yes you can do that!
A tutorial on how I actually hung it will be coming soon. I am telling you it was SOOOO easy. Until then, walk around your house and see where you are going to try some temporary wallpaper then come back here and I’ll show you how I did it 🙂
One more look…before….
I LOVE it!!!!!
